Aetna Medicaid PGY1 Managed Care Pharmacy Residency
Statement of Purpose
To build upon the Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) education and outcomes to develop pharmacist clinicians with diverse patient care, leadership and education skills who are eligible for board certification and postgraduate year two (PGY2) pharmacy residency training. A managed care pharmacy residency will provide systematic training of pharmacists to achieve professional competence in the delivery of patient care and managed care pharmacy practice.
The PGY1 Managed Care Pharmacy Residency at Aetna Medicaid will develop post-graduate pharmacists for leadership, clinical and operational roles in managed care. These roles include: prior authorization pharmacist, medication therapy management (MTM) pharmacist, health plan pharmacy manager/director, drug information pharmacist, utilization management pharmacist, formulary management pharmacist, and quality improvement pharmacist.
Residency Special Features
The Aetna PGY1 Managed Care Pharmacy Residency will be an integral part of the Clinical Pharmacy Quality team that develops and implements quality initiatives for Medicaid plans, Part D Special Needs Plan, and Medicare-Medicaid plans, including STARs and HEDIS measures. Residents will also gain experience in prior authorization reviews, participation in P&T Committee meetings, participation in Interdisciplinary Team meetings, formulary management, utilization management, health plan pharmacy benefit management, Part D CMS regulations and State Medicaid regulations for pharmacy benefits. In addition, residents will be required to complete a residency project and attend national/regional pharmacy conferences.
Accreditation
Aetna Medicaid PGY1 Managed Care Pharmacy Residency is accredited by the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) in partnership with the Academy of Managed Care Pharmacists (AMCP).
